2010-09-15 Wednesday Night Series
Twenty nine dinghies enjoyed fantastic racing conditions which proved to be the perfect end to the Wednesday Summer Series. The westerly wind saw the fleets leave the start line on a short fetch to South Mallard followed by a broad reach to Dunstone. From here it was a tricky beat with the incoming tide & many wind shifts which saw a variety of tactics employed across the fleets. Once around the windward mark at Melampus there was another broad reach back to West Mallard.
The conditions provided some very close racing throughout the fleets as the various boats split into packs which saw battles being fought and positions changing throughout the race. Ralph Weller made a welcome return to RPCYC racing & led the slow handicap fleet in his Lightning which he raced for the first time to great success but was sadly over the start at the beginning of the race resulting in an OCS despite all his hard work.
Racing at RPCYC is going from strength to strength with 76 boats taking part in the some if not all of the races in the series. Special thanks must go to RPCYC’s Race Officer Keith Kendall & the many volunteers from both RPCYC & Plymouth Youth Sailing who have given up their time to help make the series happen. Without them we would not have any racing – THANK YOU FROM ALL OF THE SAILORS.
