2012-04-11 Enterprise Report
XC weather indicated a 12 knot NNE wind which was pretty accurate and delivered the puffy, shifty conditions expected for last night’s race.
Peter and Chris in Dyskinetic and Rob and Wallace in Egg n Spoon were out for their first sail of the year and despite some rustiness took the top 2 places.
Now up to 5 boats all the Ents were in a tight bunch for the first two downwind legs to Dunstone. Peter and Alan rounded Melampus nearly last and took a low course with a goose winged jib to a: keep clear air and b: open a flask of coffee, both paid off as they got to Dunstone first but on the outside of the fleet. Four boats were actually overlapped with Martin and Billy on the inside and in the lead.
The Spoon took an early leg on starboard into the flood tide and crossed the fleet on the first header. Around the top mark it was Spoon followed by Dyskinetic and Different Shade. Partly due to chocolate and pies aboard the Spoon Dyskinetic closed the gap to 20m by Dunstone for the last shifty beat to the finish.
Just 100m short of the top mark Dyskinetic was inside the last shift and closed down the Spoon to a port v starboard tack off, leaving Spoon with the win by a whisker.
All the boats enjoyed close battles and with 3 new boats looming to join the fleet in the next few weeks the clubhouse banter was all about the new contenders and their chances.
A big thank you to all the race team and Jon for safety boat and photography. Gallery link.
