The course is the South Westerly standard of VEK. West Mallard, Melampus and Dunstone.
Pre start meandering until the camera falls off
The line was very port biased and everyone started on Port tack for the close fetch to West Mallard.
Egg n Spoon was nearly a premature starter due to the strong ebb tide sweeping everyone down river but managed a little to wiggle to cross the line at the gun and was first around West Mallard.
The doctors were the only ones to hold on port tack and got a lump of weed on their rudder for their trouble. At the top mark it was Spoon followed by Different Shade 30 metres behind.
With superior downwind speed Peter and Alan closed down Rob and Wallace in the Spoon to be in close contention rounding Dunstone.
These gains were reversed on the next leg when Different Shade chose an inshore path for less ebb tide which did not pay as hoped.
Up the second beat Egg n Spoon picked up some good shifts and stretched their lead which they held until the end.
The weed free Doctors in Dsykinetic had closed down Martin for a tussle at Dunstone.
It was a great night to be out on the water and thanks to the safety boat and line crews for all their support.
Spoon and Different Shade were both running GoPro cameras to bring you exciting inside action from the fleet. My footage from the Spoon was all looking good until the camera got pinged off during a gybe before the start.
I will get editing and put up the movie over the weekend. We are still experimenting with the best mounting positions to capture the action when the wind picks up a bit, so will keep you posted.
