Jon Buckler – RC Sail

After a weeks break for the National Fireworks the forecast of a 15mph SSW  looked promising for the dinghy Sailors of the Rooster Summer Series.

As the crews gathered to rig their boats the wind dropped to a mere fraction of what had been promised !!.  As usual for this time of year with summer holidays numbers were down on previous races but 21 boats still raced and the wind came back to  border on a force 2/3 which provided some really close racing throughout the fleet.Pete Ganderton & Alan Scarlett paired up once again in their Enterprise Tacamahaka after many weeks apart & proved they still remembered how to sail an Enterprise FAST winning by nearly 2 minutes on the otherwise tight Enterprise pack.

Hugh Spencer proved there’s still plenty of life in the old dog yet revelling in the choppy conditions to win by a similar margin with Jon Buckler’s Solo in second after fighting off challenges by the other two lightnings in the race which were split by Rob & Max`Beaton’s RS Feva who claimed a well deserved fourth spot despite claiming he went the wrong way for the favoured tide :)

Rumpleteazer – Fastnet 2009

Everyone from RPCYC wishes Eric Bates & his crew the best of luck & favourable winds in this years race – below is an email from Eric explaining how we can track his progress.

All

As you may know Rumpleteazer is again competing in the Fastnet race albeit with a changed crew from 2007. The race starts from Cowes on Sunday 9 August, proceeds via Fastnet Rock (SE Ireland) and finishes in Plymouth; total distance 608 miles. Subject to kind winds we hope to complete the course in around 5 days (although the out and out racers take between 2-3 days).

As in 2007 all boats are to be fitted with a tracker; you can follow progress by going to www.fastnet.rorc.org and then clicking on ‘Fleet Tracking’.

 Regards

A sunny evening and light winds were a pleasant contrast to the recent weather we have been experiencing.

With Summer holidays in full swing there still was a strong fleet of 29 dinghies racing in the sixth race of the Rooster summer series. With many faces missing due to holidays and other regattas /championships  it is very encouraging to see new entrants to the series.

RPCYC along with the rest of the dinghy sailors in the series would like to welcome Ralph Weller (Solo) , Darren & Natalie Roach (RS200) & Adam Littlejohn (Laser) to the series.

We are currently planning an Autumn series which will run on alternate Saturdays from October through to December along with another Winter Series which will run again on alternate Saturdays from January until the start of April. Exact dates will be published soon.
