JUNE 2017

A brief newsletter to keep you up to date:

We are now well into the summer sailing season, and have passed the day with the longest daylight. Sailing progresses well (see report below).
Quiz nights are proving very popular and are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month however, due to a booking our July Quiz will be held on 12th July the subjects will be History and General Knowledge, our chefs produce a magnificent supper and we have a raffle.
Bookings for Fireworks are now being taken and are expected to sell out very rapidly. Please contact Michele or Emma Thomas to make your reservation.
A special notice for your diaries:- we shall be holding our Autumn Ball on Friday 15th September. Menus and further information will be in the next newsletter.
I would like to apologise for my wording in the April Newsletter which was unfortunate in that it implied that Tony Bale had rejected a Directorship of RPCYC. Tony wishes it to be known that he was not aware that, as Sailing Secretary, he was eligible to be a Board Member nor had he been asked to join the Board. He, like me was unaware that the Bye Law was changed at the 2016 AGM, and I had not advised him of the possibility of Directorship.
Roger Payne ~ Hon. Secretary
SAILING
Prize Giving for the Early Summer was held on 1st June, many congratulations to all worthy winners and very many thanks to Force 4 for their sponsorship.
On the same evening we hosted ARC Portugal sailors to supper, some forty sailors enjoyed a pre-supper drink as part of their welcome and the Hon. Secretary presented a Club Burgee. They also used our Race Office for the start of their race on Sunday 4th June. The Club is hosting a supper for a Dutch Yacht Club on Friday 21st July, they will also be having a drinks reception and will be presented with a Club Burgee.
We are both pleased and grateful to Sutton Marina who have agreed to free berthing for our rib in exchange for banner advertising on the eastern end railings of our balcony.
More thanks to our Race Officers and line crews who have manned the race office meaning that no sailors have been forced out of their boats. Why not come on into the Club on a Thursday evening to watch the racing, call down and visit us in the Race Office, we always welcome “new hands” and enjoy a friendly sailor’s supper when all return from sea.
